Washington: Hundreds of Indian students, mostly from Andhra Pradesh, face the prospect of deportation from the US after authorities raided and shut down a university in the Silicon Valley on charges of a massive immigration fraud. The Tri-Valley University in Pleasanton, a major suburb in San Francisco Bay Area, has been charged by federal investigating authorities with being part of an effort to defraud, misuse visa permits and indulge in money laundering and other crimes. According to a federal complaint filed in a California court, the University, which was raided and shut down last week, helped foreign nationals illegally acquire immigration status. The university is said to have 1,555 students. As many as 95 per cent of these students are Indian nationals, the complaint said. Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma has earlier announced a film titled Bejawada Rowdilu, where he wants to showcase the rowdyism in Vijayawada. After many speculations have popped out, on the lead hero of the movie, RGV has now announced that Naga Chaitanya would play the main lead in the film. “The UID system has an inbuilt security and privacy component” Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India Nandan Nilekani speaking at the launch of the forum for revitalising of public services (FRPS), a collaborative effort between National Academy of Customs and Excise and Narcotics and the direct taxes regional training institute (DTRTI). “This system ensures that UID database could not be read except for authentication and could not be accessed except on grounds like national security” he said. The government’s ambitious unique identity project aiming to give a 16-digit number to all citizens of the country was on Monday renamed ‘AADHAAR’ and its new logo unveiled. "UID itself is very confusing. Some people call it DUI, somebody calls it IUD and so forth. So it was getting a little difficult to explain all this various permutations, combinations of this acronym," Nilekani said.
