Aadhaar UID Cards Targetting which States in the year 2011?

The government’s ambitious unique identity project aiming to give a 16-digit number to all citizens of the country was on Monday renamed ‘AADHAAR’ and its new logo unveiled.

"UID itself is very confusing. Some people call it DUI, somebody calls it IUD and so forth. So it was getting a little difficult to explain all this various permutations, combinations of this acronym," Nilekani said.

The UID project that aimed at giving India’s each citizen unique identification number was today renamed Aadhaar and a new logo was unveiled. Since the day I first heard about UID project I was eager to see the project completing, and after months of waiting we see a result, a new name and a logo. They say that term UID was confusing and thus the new name, but for a child who is still unborn and has not seen the world, does the name really matter and do we really need to give him a face (the logo)?

The news also adds that this project will be aimed at poor and the underprivileged, but wasn’t UID meant for the whole India? Or it’s just to hide the inability to provide the UID to whole of India in the promised time? The poor and the underprivileged will surely not complain even if they don’t get the UID so shifting the focus on them will ensure more time and less complaints!
