124 trains cancelled in Telangana due to blockade

Hyderabad: Railways have cancelled 124 trains in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh from Oct 15 to 17 in view of the three-day "rail blockade" called by Telangana Joint Action Committee to press the demand for a separate state.

The cancelled trains include 48 express and 76 passenger trains.

As many as 38 express and 16 passenger trains would also be partially cancelled during the three days.

In a statement released here Thursday night, the South Central Railway (SCR) also announced that 68 express trains would be diverted.

All MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) or local trains in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad will be operated between Hyderabad and Lingampally and Secunderabad and Lingampally. The MMTS trains between Hyderabad and Secunderabad and Secunderabad and Falaknuma stand cancelled.

All DHMU (Diesel Hydraulic Multiple Unit) trains have also been cancelled.

The railways plan to operate only 20 trains as scheduled.

The railways had earlier hinted that it would operate all trains as scheduled after the state government assured it of full security. The police had also warned the protestors of serious action under Railway Act.

The JAC has twice postponed the rail blockade. The three-day blockade was originally planned on Oct 9, 10 and 11 but was postponed to Oct 12, 13 and 14. The JAC again deferred it to Oct 15, 16 and 17. (IANS)
